Here are some examples for commonly accepted abbreviations: atd., apod., č., např., obr., příp.
Standard abbreviations for the names of the week days: po, út, st, čt, pá, so, ne. Standard abbreviations for the names of the months: led, úno, bře, dub, kvě, črv, črc, srp, zář, říj, lis, pro.
Base units: m (meter), kg (kilogram), s (second), A (ampere), K (kelvin), V (volt), mol (mole), cd (candela). Other common units: B (byte, sometimes bell), bit or b (bit), V (volt), Hz (hertz), W (watt), W (ohm). Common prefixes: k (kilo), M (mega), G (giga), m (mili), m (micro)
NOTE: "KB" (meaning kilobyte) is not correct. Correct form is "kB". The numbers and units must be separated with a hard space.
Adjectives with Numbers
Adjectives derived from numbers must follow these rules: Lower numbers may be written out together ("3-color cartidge" > "tříbarevná kazeta"), other numbers must be written without space or hyphens ("21-pin connector" > "21kolíkový konektor"). Other numbers must be separated with a hard space ("20 minutes left" > "Zbývá 20 minut").
One-Letter Prepositions
One-letter prepositions "k", "s", "v" and "z" must be followed with a hard space because they cannot stand at the end of a line.
Quotation Marks
Quotation marks highlight titles, citations and references (links). Where a different form of highlighting is employed (e.g. italics), quotation marks are not used. Sometimes, quotation marks are used for a highly non-technical expression utilized to help reader understand some technical concept. Only round quotes are permissible in Czech: „Text“. Use Alt+0132 and Alt+0147 codes respectively to type these quotation marks.
Dashes and Hyphens
Czech uses an "n-dash" (Alt+0150; "m-dash" does not exist in Czech). The dash must be separated with a hard space from each side. It is used to separate sentence in two distinct parts. It is often better to convert a dash in English into a comma followed by a subordinate clause.
Hyphen is used without spaces. Its use is governed by Czech syntax.
